These three (3) half-day workshops are part of the launch of our mentoring program, but can also be offered independently. Their goal is to raise awareness among research teams about the role of statistics in the various stages of the research process while highlighting that good practices in this field are relatively easy to achieve. To eliminate the often austere connotation associated with statistical tools, we have favoured a cooperative serious game approach during which participants must collaborate to achieve a common goal.
Each workshop covers a specific aspect of research activities according to the following sequence :
- Management of experiments and generated data
- Preparation of research protocols
- Statistical analysis & dissemination of results
Formula Used
The cooperative game aims, as its name suggests, to get participants to work together to achieve predefined objectives. These objectives vary throughout each workshop and combine puzzles to solve, role-playing, and brain teasers, each addressing a concrete aspect in which statistical tools play a key role and provide effective solutions.
Objectives
- Familiarize participants with fundamental R&D issues related to statistical aspects by encouraging them to find appropriate solutions.
- Demonstrate the importance of statistics in research while highlighting that many, if not most, of the approaches can be implemented by non-statisticians.
- Use a fun approach to make a subject often considered austere more interesting.
- Promote collaboration between different stakeholders who usually only see one side of the issues addressed.
Prerequisite
These workshops, aimed at raising participants’ awareness of the added value of mastering statistical tools, do not require any prior knowledge in this field.
